About the Book -- Overcoming Zionism

Prof. Kovel's book examines the foundations of the Zionist movement, the Zionist settlement of Palestine, the founding of Israel as a Jewish state, the expulsion of the Palestinian population, the conquest and occupation of the West Bank and Gaza territories by Israel, the Palestinian resistance, the degradation of the environment in Israel and the occupied territories, and the past and current efforts to resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Prof. Kovel concludes that the proximate cause of these past and present conflicts is and has been the philosophy and practice of Zionism itself, which has disserved both Palestinians and Israelis and the peoples of the Middle East. He submits that any permanent resolution must involve the creation of a secular combined Palestinian/Israeli nation in place of the current political entities. Prof. Kovels website can be found here.
